Implementation of Strategy is the key to success
By Hasan Kamoonpuri
MUSCAT – The “Make Your Strategy Come Alive” seminar conducted by Robin Speculand here yesterday was a huge success..

The seminar organized by Infoline and Light and Shadow Enterprises, focused on the importance of implementation of strategy as the key to success.

In his welcome address, Sameer Gupta, Executive Vice President, Infoline said Speculand author of the bestseller book Bricks to Bridges and the CEO of Bridges Business Consultancy, is an expert with specialization in strategy implementation.

Robin said despite the good intention of business leaders – nine out of 10 strategies fail to deliver the derived results.

“Everyday thousands of Organisation around the world is embarking on implementing their strategy, yet only a few make them work successfully. Billion of dollars are spent, millions of ideas are lost and hundreds of thousands of hours are wasted because of unsuccessful implementation.”

After leaders have created the strategy, they frequently place too heavy an emphasis on the start of the strategy implementation and over the time the momentum and commitment wavers.

Robin said many business leaders believe that the main challenge is create a sound strategy and that most of the activity necessary to make it work will flow from its inherent strength.

The new realization is that the actual implementation is at least twice as demanding as putting the strategy together in the first place. A good strategy alone does not guarantee success! Only those who have mastered implementation will reap the rewards.

The seminar attempted to equip participating CEO’s, senior business executives and managers with a guiding framework as they prepare to take on their strategy implementation challenges.

Most strategy Implementation efforts don’t work, as many as 90% fade out along the way or simply fail to deliver. Only 10% succeed. Overwhelmingly this is because most business leaders waste critical time creating ineffective change management activities.

Robin said to succeed; business strategies require implementation over an extensive period of time. The key to success lies in adopting a disciplined, long-term approach

This entails the use of an implementation compass, a generic tool that provides the structure and navigation to implementation strategies.

The compass contains eight components: people, the business case, communication, measurement, culture, process, reinforcement and review. It guides companies through the implementation maze, enables them to assess strengths and weakness, to adopt best practices and provides a clear road map for action.

In his seminars, Robin attempts to provide an authoritative, clear and practical solution for business that are determined to see their sound business strategies actually materialize. Business strategies can only succeed if there are viable implementation strategies in place to make them work, emphasize.

During the seminar, Robin drew on top-level business research and extensive consultancy experience dealing with multinational companies, to provide a much needed wake up call to the business leaders and avoid unnecessary failure by mastering the art of business strategy implementation.

The seminar served as an effective tool kit to enable attendees to implement their strategies by providing six new fundamentals that are crucial to the implementation process.

One creative tool that attracted maximum attention and response was the implementation compass that guides and navigates business through the complex maze of implementation, provides an over-arching structure to organize activity and enables visibility, planning and control of actions to take place.

Up until now, there hasn’t been an effective framework to implementation to happen. There is a wide choice of tools, techniques and consultants for creating strategies. But when it comes to implementation, business leaders have largely been left to fumble on their own.

Robin’s work is centered on the “Implementation Compass”, a practical, easy to use tool that navigates strategy implementation. It shows you what you need to do and where to focus to make your strategy come alive.
